2012 Toronto Fringe Festival: Porn Star
Chris Craddock reveals a seductive spiritual side in Porn Star
Presented by Beefy Geek Productions
Written by Chris Craddock
Directed by Byron Laviolette
The politics of sex and sexuality are at the centre of Chris Craddock‘s intelligently funny play Porn Star, now playing as part of the Toronto Fringe Festival.
The story revolves around a Saskatchewan-based, Sarah Palin-obsessed, right-wing Christian mother, Sharon (Lynne Griffin), and her two daughters: the 14-year-old Kate (played by the adorable Heather Marie Annis), who takes her own life when she discovers she’s pregnant, and now speaks to us from beyond the grave; and Esther (the always entertaining Amy Lee), a naïve librarian-cum-amateur-porn star.
Esther is surprised to learn that she has been nominated for an award and ventures to the big city (San Francisco) to attend the ceremony. While there, she meets Clarice (Sarah Mennell), a sassy sex columnist, and, much to her mother’s dismay, her life is about to get a sinful, er, exciting makeover.
Featuring hilarious and heartfelt performances by loving sisters Annis and Lee, Porn Star is more about freedom and forgiveness than it is about knocking boots. Don’t miss it!
See the last two performances of Porn Star on Saturday July 14 (9:45pm) and Sunday July 15 (3:30pm) at the Tarragon Theatre Mainspace. Visit fringetoronto.com for more information and to buy tickets.
