2012 Toronto Fringe Festival: Raw
Rob Salerno asks serious questions in this cutting two-hander
Presented by Ten Foot Pole Productions
Written and directed by Rob Salerno
A man infected with HIV confronts his “killer” in Rob Salerno’s Raw, now playing as part of the Toronto Fringe Festival. This disturbingly funny and often shocking play explores the relationship between James (Jason R. Stroud), the angry victim of careless one night stand, and his alleged executioner Stephen (a perfectly irrepsonsible Salerno). The two men collide with violent emotion in an hour-long blame battle that will change both of their lives forever.
With compelling performances by both Stroud and Salerno, including a wickedly entertaining scene featuring a wise-cracking stuffed animal from Stephen’s childhood, Raw ultimately seeks forgiveness, acceptance and love in an unfair world. An honest and significant production by the creator of Fucking Stephen Harper and Big in Germany (watch for Big In Germany at the upcoming 2012 Winnipeg, Calgary and Edmonton Fringe Festivals this summer).
Catch the last two performances of Raw on Friday July 13 (5:45pm) and Saturday July 14 at (12pm) at Robert Gill Theatre, 214 College Street (entrance at St. George), 3rd floor.
