Panamerican Routes: Carmen Aguirre’s Blue Box
A thrilling true story of love, lust and revolution
Presented by Nightswimming and Neworld Theatre
Written and performed by Carmen Aguirre
Directed by Brian Quirt
Based on the award-winning book Something Fierce—Memoirs of a Revolutionary Daughter (CBC’s Canada Reads 2012 champion), Carmen Aguirre's Blue Box recounts the author's life as an underground revolutionary in Chile under the dictator Augusto Pinochet. The story moves back and forth in time, from Aguirre’s terror-filled youth dodging the secret police, to Los Angeles in the early 2000s, where she falls hard for a younger TV star who she affectionately refers to as “Vision Man."
Now on stage at Theatre Passe Muraille as part of Panamerican Routes, an international festival for human rights, this wildly entertaining solo show journeys deep into the heart of a truly remarkable woman. A compelling storyteller, Aguirre reveals the details of her ordeal with passion, candour and a wicked sense of humour. She talks to the audience like an old friend, and we happily follow along on her astonishing journey. Catch Aguirre live while you can.
Carmen Aguirre's Blue Box runs until May 27 at Theatre Passe Muraille. Click here to find out more about this performance and the other shows, workshops and conferences at this year’s Panamerican Routes Festival.
