RARE
Judith Thompson's Toronto Fringe favourite returns for a remarkable remount at the Young Centre
Created and directed by Judith Thompson
Shows like Judith Thompson's RARE, a Patron's Pick at the 2012 Toronto Fringe Festival, don't come along everyday. Which is why Albert Schultz programmed it as part of this year's winter programming at the Young Centre for the Performing Arts.
Featuring nine performers with Down syndrome—Sarah Carney, Dylan Harman, James Hazlett, Nick Herd, Suzanne Love, Mike Liu, Nada Mayla, Krystal Nausbaum and Andreas Prinz—accompanied by musician Victoria Carr, the play gives the actors space to express themselves through a series of movements, monologues, dialogues, Shakespearean soliloquies, song and dance. The script consists of material written mostly by the cast, exploring everything from feelings of love, fear, anger, grief and hope for the future.
Thomspon has created something truly special with RARE—a funny, touching and eye-opening look at the lives of real people living with Down syndrome. The show gives audiences a unique opportunity to see the world from a different perspective.
Don't miss your chance to see this charming production on stage now for a limited engagement at the Young Centre for the Performing Arts. Visit youngcentre.ca for more information and to buy tickets.
