Toronto Fringe Festival 25th Anniversary
Fun, games and free concerts abound at this year's Fringe Club
The Toronto Fringe Festival is celebrating its 25th Anniversary this year with a new and improved Fringe Club at Honest Ed's. In addition to the usual beer tent, food vendors, 16 Visual Fringe exhibits and six Alley plays, the 2013 Fringe Club programming now features Fringe After Dark, a series of free events on weeknights at 9pm. Highlights include: Board Game Night (July 4), Yoga with Beer (July 8), Truth or Dare (July 9), the Fringe Awards Ceremony (announcement of Patron's Pick, Best of Fringe Uptown, the Tosho Cutting-Edge Award, and the 25 Hour Play Contest on July 10), and a Ghost Story Competition hosted by Eric Woolfe (July 12).
This year's Fringe Club also boasts a number of free concerts on weekends at 7pm. The lineup of local indie musicians includes: Nick Teehan (July 6), Larra Skye (July 7), Rehan Dalal (July 13), Abdominal and the Obliques (July 14). Not to mention, local indie pop-rockers Hooded Fang will take the stage in the Fringe Club at 5pm on opening day (Wednesday, July 3).
Also new this year is the Smartphone Scavenger Hunt (Saturday, July 6). And, as usual, there are a host of industry-related Tent Talks, including "A Smorgasbord of People You Should Know," hosted by Matt Baram of National Theatre of the World on July 12 at 5pm (followed by an informal mix & mingle from 6-7pm).
The Toronto Fringe Festival features 148 shows, in every genre, in 35 venues across the city from July 3-14, 2013. Visit fringetoronto.com for show listings. Happy Fringing!
