TSO Pops Concert | Some Enchanted Evening: The Music of Rodgers and Hammerstein
Steven Reineke makes a thrilling debut as TSO’s first Principal Pops Conductor
The Toronto Symphony Orchestra Pops concert series opened this week with Some Enchanted Evening: The Music of Rodgers and Hammerstein, a glorious celebration of Broadway’s legendary songwriting duo conducted by the newly named Principal Pops Conductor Steven Reineke. Featuring three talented vocalists, the stunning Ashley Brown (Soprano), Aaron Lazar (Tenor) and Jonathan Estabrooks (Baritone), as well as the Orpheus Choir of Toronto and the University of Toronto MacMillan Singers, the lively concert put a refreshing spin on beloved classics from Oklahoma, Carousel, South Pacific, The King and I and The Sound of Music.
Moving, romantic, nostalgic, and exciting, Some Enchanted Evening was definitely a musical night to remember. Reineke, who is also the Music Director of The New York Pops at Carnegie Hall and the Principal Pops Conductor of the National Symphony Orchestra at The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, is a fine addition to the TSO’s offering.
