Andrew Lloyd Webber's The Phantom of the Opera opened in London's West End in 1986, and on Broadway in 1988. It won the 1986 Olivier Award and the 1988 Tony Award for Best Musical, and Michael Crawford (in the title role) won the Olivier and Tony Awards for Best Actor in a Musical. It is the longest running show in Broadway history, and it enjoyed a 10-year run at the Pantages Theatre (now the Ed Mirvish Theatre) in Toronto from 1989 to 1999.

In the 1930s, the English author T.S. Eliot wrote a collection of whimsical poems that focused on feline mannerisms and psychology. In the book, human characteristics and personality traits are attributed to various cats, such as Gus the Theatre Cat, and The Rum Tum Tugger, a self-centred and rebellious cat.

When L. Frank Baum penned his children’s novel, The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, in 1900, he could never have imagined its lasting power. Unfortunately, Baum did not live to see MGM’s 1939 cinematic adaptation, which brought the fairytale to life through the use of both music and Technicolor, becoming a one of the most popular films of all time. Over 100 years later, the enchantment of The Wizard of Oz has been brought to life once again by Andrew Lloyd Webber in his new production, straight from London’s West End and now on stage at the Ed Mirvish Theatre.
